ROCK: HUEY LEWIS DOESN'T LIKE FIREWORKS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Huey Lewis is performing at one of the biggest fireworks displays in the nation, and there's just one problem: he doesn't like fireworks. Lewis says he's not opposed to them, but they're his least favorite part of Independence Day. It stems from a trip to Europe his family took when he was five years old. His family left him with a babysitter in a basement apartment in Spain during one of their big national holidays. Lewis says the fireworks were "feet from the window, and they were so loud they scared me for life." He says since that time, he has not been a fan of fireworks. However, he says he couldn't refuse playing a Fourth of July show with the Capitol in the background, which he says he likes so much he wishes he could take it with him. Lewis, along with Taylor Hicks and Jerry Lee Lewis, will play in Washington. It will be shown as "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS.

POP: TAYLOR HICKS PLANS FOR PATRIOTISM, BUGS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- If a bug flies into Taylor Hicks' mouth tonight, it might be a gift. Hicks will perform at "A Capitol Fourth," the celebration in front of the Capitol that will be carried on PBS. Hicks says outdoor venues can attract bugs, especially under the lights, but "if you can incorporate that into your show, you've got a good thing going." Hicks says he's planning to wear a patriotic outfit, but not one covered in stars and stripes. He says, "I might just leave the American flag to be the American flag this time." Huey Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis will also perform.

CONCORD, Calif. (AP) -- Country Joe McDonald of Country Joe and the Fish and more than 2,000 of his friends are hoping they've broken a world record. McDonald led 2,052 electric and acoustic guitarists who played "This Land Is Your Land" in a park in Concord, California, Tuesday night. They played for more than six minutes.
